Louise TY (:
This morning all the TY's were up early as we had to be in school before 8! We went to the Scifest competition in the ITT.
We have been working on these projects since the beginning of TY and they were submitted for YS, only one project for our year got through to that so we had plenty more time to work on our projects.
Unfortunately my project wasnt in the competition but it was still fun and after lunch we got to go to two lectures, I went to Forensic Science and to a Chemistry one.
St Wolstans won 5 awards, and best overall project so well done to all the girls and especially Aoife B,Kate and Steph H. :)

Last Friday a man from the county council came in to encourage TY's to cycle to school instead of driving. We saw a video clip from the Netherlands where everyone cycles and it's almost frowned upon to drive! I found this really different than Ireland because only 2% of the population cycle.
I think I would cycle if it was more normal here and safer however i don't have a bike :/
This is part of the transport Green Flag that our school are working on at the moment. :)

The other day Sarah and I gave out 20 surveys to 1st , 2nd, TY's and 5th years.
We were asking for our science project which is about the effects of Technology on people.
We asked questions like how long do you spend on the internet everyday and do you turn off your phone at night.
At the moment we are compiling our results and they are very interesting.
We are doing this for the scifest competition.

At the moment me and Sarah B are working on our project – The effects of Technology on Teens for the Scifest competition in May. We are handing out surveys next week and we have to do loads of research as we didn’t do much in time for the Young Scientist. We also have to create a powerpoint outlining the project and we have to present it to the TY’s soon.
Visit Scifest's website here.

Today after lunch all the TY's went to the demo room for a talk. A man came in from WEEE Ireland (www.weeeireland.ie) He was telling us how to recycle electrical products and especially batteries because he said that for the amount of batteries sold not many are recycled. He explained to us about a competition to get people to recycle batteries ; maybe the Green Schools will be interested in doing it?

We are going to the RDS tomorrow for the young scientist tomorrow so that should be fun. A TY group are in the competiton and a 5th year group from our school so hopefully they do well :)

On tuesday the 16th we went to the State Labs down the road at backweston for the morning until 12 o clock.
When we arrived we went into a conference room where we were given a talk about the background of the labs and what they do.
Then we were split into 4 groups and we got white lab coats :)
We went around all the different types of labs for a few hours and I didnt find it very interesting because Im not very interested in science...but I'd say it would have been interesting if you liked that sort of thing:)
