I never watched a ballet before and I thought it would be boring but it was actually really good. She was amazing and we later found out that she has been accepted into a ballet school in Manchester. Well done Hayley :)

Today we went on our retreat to Glendalough in Wicklow. Class Amina went as well as some girls from Emnet. We left the school at about 9.15 and it took nearly 1 1/2 hours to get there :/
We spent the day walking around lakes,up hills and up to a waterfall. There was this labyrinth that everyone had to stroll through, it looked really short but when you walked through it quietly for refection it seemed really long. We also watched a movie on Glendalough and St Kevin and went to a mini-museum. It was really nice and peaceful :)

Today all the TY's headed off at 9.05. We got a bus to town and then we were split into the to classes. First Amina went to the W.B. Yeats exhibition. It was interesting to learn about his life and his inspiration for his poems. His marriage proposal was officially rejected by the same woman 5 times and in his 50's, we eventually married someone nearly 30 years his junior. There was loads of his original notebooks and things like that. You can see the exhibition online here.
Then Amina and Emnet swapped and we went to the National Museum of Ireland. We got to see artefact's through all the ages and then we got to see some bog bodies. It was quite disturbing looking at someone who died hundreds of years ago, but it was amazing how well they were preserved, they even had hair and teeth!
We then got an hour and a half to go get lunch and then we met back at the museum.
Afterwards we all went to the National Gallery. We we talked through 4 paintings and two of them are from WB Yeats' brother Jack. It was interesting to see how much an artist can change his style over his lifetime.
So on Tuesday we left the school at around half 10 and we set off to Glasnevin. We were going to a drama showcase in memory of Margaret Alyward. There was three other schools -Finglas, Glasnevin and Clontarf.
It was a long but fun day. We practised, changed our plays, put them all together, practised more andate :)
My part in Noughts and Crosses was cut out. We had to shorten and change our play because we were preforming to an audience of nuns. So instead I did the music for the two Amina plays- Noughts and Crosses and But you Didn't.
The actual concert started at 8 and there was plenty of acting, singing and dancing.
We got home at around half day and it was a good day :)
On Saturday the girls in Noughts and Crosses met Ms B and Ms G at esso at half 10. At around a quarter to 11 we left for Macroom,Cork.
The bus was quietish on the way with people listening to their iPod's or practising their lines. After a pit stop in Portlaoise we set off again along the main road to Cork. 3 and a half hours later we arrived in this town. It honestly looked like something from the past and was very country-ish :)
We put our props in a dressing room and 4 of us headed off for a walk and food. When we came back some of the girls went to watch one of the plays and the rest of us got ready.
At one stage like 20 girls from Charleville came in to get ready in our dressing room. It was very crowded. Then they went on to do their play and we practised our lines.
At half 4 we went on stage and did our play and it went really well. :)
Then at half 5 we got back on the bus and went home.
It was a really fun bonding day :)
Later we heard that we won best original screenplay and best non-previous winner!
Well done to all the girls and thank you to Ms B, Ms G, Ms R and Ms C.
On Friday we had the f1 in schools competition. Me , 11 other girls and Mr W left the school at 7.45. We set off for Griffith College,Dublin. It was very quiet on the bus because everyone was really tired :).
We missed the entrance so drove up and don for a while. When we arrived, we got name tag things and we went to our stand. We were beside the window and the emergency exit so it was nice and bright. Team Éalú were opposite us. We set up our stand by putting posters of the back and putting a table cloth, ribbons, our car , portfolio and two laptops on the table. It looked really well. Throughout the day , we had 3 things to do. First a judge came over and examined our portfolio. He seemed to like it. After a while we had lunch and then our uniforms arrived late but just on time for our race. Our car raced three times against the other team. We won one out of three, apparently our car was too heavy (97g!).
Then we have our verbal interview downstairs with 2 judges. I think it went well.
Later we took down our stand and went to the awards ceremony. We didn't win anything or get through but I wasn't too surprised because some of the other groups stands were amazing.
We arrived home at about half 4 so we had a long but good day .:)

Unfortunately we were like third last to be judged so we had to hang around at our stand and didn't get to see much other groups.
When the judge arrived he seemed really impressed with our concept and our finished products. The only criticism he had was that we should have bound our report and we didn't see that as a major criticism.
Anyway then we took down our stand at about half 12 and they called out the groups that were shortlisted for the Leinsters. We were really pleased when Green Hero got shortlisted.
Later on we found out that we didn't get through and i was really really disappointed. Green Hero put so much work into our company. I don't think people realise how much work goes into producing 2 magazines. We felt our magazines looked really professional and the feedback we got was amazing.
Maybe we just weren't what the judges were looking for...
Last Friday Brian Daly came in and he talked to the TY's and the LCVP class about the Ian Daly swim a mile with a smile.
It was really sad but interesting. He explained about his son, Ian who died when he was really young from a tumour. His family set up this charity to keep his sons name alive. Every year in April there is a sponsored swim held in the NAC and the money goes towards Barretstown and cancer research.
We saw a video on Barretstown and it was amazing how they bring kids to it for 10 days completley free to forget about their illness and focus on having fun by doing various activites and making new friends.

Today(Monday) at 12o clock the TY's headed off to Croke Park to see the museum. I thought it would be boring but it was actually really interesting!
When we arrived we watched a video that was about 20 minutes long. It was interesting because it was more about the day to day running of Croker and like all the smaller jobs that make games possible.
We got to go right to the top seats, visit a box , the museum , see the players lounge and dressing rooms. We then got to have a bit of food it the cafe :)

Tuesday was the day we were all looking forward to. At 9 o clock all the TY's left the school and we headed for Mulingar. We arrived at about half ten and we were the only school there. The drama I was in was first but it didnt begin until 11 so we had time to get into our costumes and set up the props. I think it went really well and the judge gave us some "constructive critisism" but i think she was really impressed.
Then the other 3 plays from our school went ahead and they were all really really good.
We then got to go and have our lunch in McDonalds at about half 12. Later we went back to the arts centre and we got to watch to plays from Donegal. I really liked their accents ;)

On tuesday the 16th we went to the State Labs down the road at backweston for the morning until 12 o clock.
When we arrived we went into a conference room where we were given a talk about the background of the labs and what they do.
Then we were split into 4 groups and we got white lab coats :)
We went around all the different types of labs for a few hours and I didnt find it very interesting because Im not very interested in science...but I'd say it would have been interesting if you liked that sort of thing:)

On Monday TY's went to Naas for the third workshop.
We were really excited to show everyone our magazine as its finished. Orla was very impressed with it and she passed it around so the other school could see it. They seemed to like it :)
Then we watched a video on communication. It was kinda boring but it was important to find out how different types of people communicate , and how to try and avoid tension within the group.
Our 2500 magazines are being delivered tomorrow...fingers crossed :)

Yesterday we went to the Moat theatre in Naas. I had to stand up and explain our idea "Green Hero" to the other schools and the lady seemed to really like it. She was impressed when she realised that we have already got enough money for printing 1600 copies. She then explained how to best market our companies and then she showed us some ad's on the projector and we had to tell her what was wrong with them. It was helpful. :)
On Friday morning ladies from Colour Me Beautiful : www.cmbireland.com came in to talk to TY’s. It was really good as they thought us what shades of colours suited our skin tones, and what style personality we were. I found it really helpful and now i know which colours I should wear and which I should avoid. :)
On Monday with Ms L. and Ms E. we went to Naas for the morning. We had a Mini Company workshop in the moat theatre along with 4 other schools from North Kildare . It was a very good and we learned the background on how we are going to set up our business. A lady from Kildare Enterprise Board gave us the talk, and also told us about products and successful businesses from past years. We then got into our groups and were given the task of coming up with 50 product ideas! We came up with around 25 with about 3 strong ones. We also got to hear other group’s ideas when they were called up, so that gave us some more inspiration. When it was over, the bus hadn’t arrived, so we went to McDonalds. J
At 7o clock on monday morning we set off to Carlingford. We were all tired but very excited. When we arrived the weather was overcast but it didnt dampen our spirits! We went in and unpacked , and where split into 6 groups of 10 and met our instructors. I was put into group 4 and groups 4 5 and 6 were put together for the two days. First we went to the challenge course. We did the low ropes , the water pump , communication breakdown and the maze. We had great fun and got very wet and muddy! :) We then went back for lunch , did canadian canoeing and pier jumping in the afternoon , and then walked back for dinner. At 7.00 we went out for a night walk up the mountain and got chinese when we got back. Groups 1-3 didnt arrive back from the walk for more than a hour after us because they got lost up the mountain in the dark! Then we went off to bed.
On tuesday we had to get up early to pack , clean our rooms , strip our beds and have breakfast before the activities started at 9.00. We did the high ropes in the morning and i had a great time trying out the three sections. At lunch we found out that high winds were coming so all water activities were cancelled. We went mountain orienteering for the afternoon and the sun finally came out!
We went back to the centre ,got our bags and left for home. We all had a great time but we were all exausted. The few days were great and we learned alot about our new classmates through the activities. :)
